What Makes A Person Gay...

I don't know how this slipped under the radar, but 60 minutes did a story oh whether sexual orientation is biological or environmental. I am not a scientist so I don't pretend to care which one, but a startling "fact" jumped out to me during the segment and I quote:

And the numbers are significant: for every older brother a man has, his chances of being gay increase by one third. Older sisters make no difference, and there's no corresponding effect for lesbians. A first-born son has about a 2 percent chance of being gay, and the numbers rise from there. The theory is it happens in the womb.

"Somehow, the mother's body is remembering how many boys she's carried before," says Breedlove. "The favorite hypothesis is that the mother may be making antibodies when she sees a boy the first time, and then affect subsequent boys when she carries them in utero

So in a nutshell the more sons you have the better chance the youngest one will be gay, now I don't know how accurate the science is hell I had to goto the Doctor office 3-4 times for a leg injury. I guess the woman's body builds a resistance to testosterone and won't make as much. Read the article below for the whole story.

Dress Lke Christina

Well if you ever really wanted to dress exactly like Christina Milan here is your chance. She is selling some of the clothes off her back on ebay. Why? I don't have a clue and won't speculate but I think we can all get a good idea. Why she goes by the screen name beat down princess I don't have a clue. Usually I don't post stuff like this but I thought it was interesting. Plus she doesn't look to happy.

Here is what she had to say as to why

This is Christina Milian. As my wardrobe grows—I’m cleaning out my closets and have donated at least 9 bags of clothing to local charites. However I am letting go of some of my nicer peices here on ebay. I have worn most of these peices to events or have let a few of these peices just sit in my closet with the tag on them. I’m sure it’ll fit better in you’re wardrobe.

New Video: Robin Thick - Lost Without You

Robin Thicke - Lost Without You

For those that didn't know Robin Thick is married to the Paula Patton who plays Angel in the new Idlewild movie. She makes a guess cameo in this film. My friend is really feeling this song. His voice to me sounds kind of airy. I find it hard to believe that he can even hold that voice thru the whole song. All I got to say is white men who get jungle fever always get a fine sista, you find love where you find it.

A Girl Like Me.....

A Girl Like Me

In one word WOW. This documentary is about young black females and their excuse me our preceptions of skin color in America. I would be lying if I did own up to my share of the blame. This is made even more powerful by the fact that it is directed by a 16 year old girl named Kiri Davis. When confronted with a choice of playing with the black doll or the white doll 15 out of 21 kids picked the white doll. Damn if that doesnt wake you up what will., as always make up your own mind.

Review: Reggae Hut

I was a huge fan of the original Reggae Hut at least of the food anyway. The broccoli and beef was some of the best food I have ever tasted in Houston. Unfortunately either due to bad management or the infamous customer service the Reggae Hut closed down. Well the folks over at The Breakfast Klub bring you the new edition. Gone are the bad attitudes replaced with the customer service that The Breakfast Klub is known for. The menu is rather limited but the folks over at the Reggae Hut promise to keep adding to it as work out all the kinks. The initial rendition of the Reggae Hut was probably a little more brighter inside, this current edition choose darker colors inside. This does not hinder the mood of the place as you go in and hear your favorite reggae jams. You get the feel that you are actually in a traditional Caribbean restaurant. As far as the menu goes of course you have your jerk chicken on the menu as well as my favorite ox tails, the ox tails were seasoned to perfection and the size portions should be big enough to fill any man's stomach. The rice was absolutely tasty.

Other than the limited menu the Reggae Hut is back and should be added to your favorite spots in Houston.

Review: Idlewild

My first thought when I left the theater after seeing Idlewild was man Hip Hop has really become a social and economical force. I think about all of the artists who have used Hip Hop and probably influenced it also. For example we have Jay-Z in the United Nations and P Diddy doing whatever it is he does.

My point is that Outkast came from doing Players Ball to this masterpiece of a movie. They really took a risk here, they could have done a "8 mile" type movie but instead decided to do something that was risky and innovative. This could have bombed spectacularly but instead the result was Idlewild. A beautifully constructed movie even down to the opening title. They story focuses on Rooster player by Antwan "Big Boi" Patton and Percival played by Andre "3000" Benjamin. Both Rooster and Percival grow up during the 1930's in rural Georgia, they play roles not really that much removed from where they are current musically. Rooster is the showman, the hustler doing what it takes to make money, while Percival is the reluctant artist.

The story revolves around a nightclub/whorehouse in Idlewild, Ga., circa 1935 whimsically called Church. Club manager Rooster (Patton) must confront a vicious gangster (Terrence Howard) who controls the flow of liquor to the club, while keeping girlfriends out of sight of his rightly suspicious wife Zora (Malinda Williams).

Rooster's childhood buddy Percival (Benjamin), a mortician by trade, plays piano at the club. He gets drawn out of his shell by the otherworldly beauty of the club's new and mysterious singer Angel (Paula Patton), forcing him to choose between her and his domineering father (Ben Vereen).

Big Boi had a better performance with a very less demanding role, he was basically playing hisself in the movie. While Andre 3000 had an very complex character that daddy issues, woman issues and every other issue you can think about.

While some people are calling this a musical, I don't really feel that way. The music scenes were cut in to the movie in such a way that it felt organic. This wasn't an extended rap video and while Outkast has always pushed the musical envelope they have pushed movie envelope in this. The direction was done by Byran Barber who was done his share of videos for Outcast

Idlewild Premiere - Edwards Theater (Houston)

Usually you only see free advanced screenings of movies when they have a good buzz. The word through the grapevine was that Idlewild was one of those movies. I didn't think I was going to get to make it even thou I got to the theater an hour before the movie was suppose to start and the line was already about 150 people deep. Fortunately the people at Edwards didn't put us in the colored section and the capacity for the screening was about 250 seats. KBXX 97.9 was going live from the screening and keep the atmosphere light. They management was tripping on taking pictures so...but I got a couple

Kanye West gets Engaged

Supposedly Kanye West,29, is engaged to the woman he intially rapped about in his breakout hit "Thru The Wire". Reportedly her name is Alexis sources close to the singer tell PEOPLE magazine.

Alexis, whose last name and occupation were not immediately available, was West’s girlfriend prior to his October 2002 car accident, one source says.

The Pursuit of Happyness - Theatrical trailer

The dramatic true life story of Chris Gardner. Considered a prodigy in scientific research, he surprised everyone and himself by setting his sights on the competitive world of high finance. Yet no sooner had he landed an entry-level position at a prestigious firm than Gardner found himself caught in a web of incredibly challenging circumstances that left him as part of the city's working homeless and with a toddler son. Motivated by the promise he made to himself as a fatherless child to never abandon his own children, the two spent almost a year moving among shelters, "HO-tels," soup lines, and even sleeping in the public restroom of a subway station. Will Smith plays the role of Chris Gardner and at least from the trailer does a dang good job. But everytime I see Will Smith do a dramatic role I think about Six Degrees of Separation...ughh. This movie comes out during Christmas time 2006.

Diddy New Video - Come To Me

I like the song. The video...I don't know I guess it is all the dancing. Diddy looks like his knees are bad he is so stiff. Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls is looking lovely. Damn I got a thing for thin women. Enjoy

From Marcy to the UN -Jay-Z

The second best rapper to ever wreck the mic is showing what the power of hip hop can do. His personal growth from Reasonable Doubt to this is definitely showing. Kofi Annan and Jay-Z were on hand to educate on the world water crisis, yes I know every time you turn on the facuet waters comes out but this was to promote countries not having access to clean and safe water. Water borne illnesses account for 80% of the worlds sicknesses. A UN study revealed that two in three people, more than 2.7 billion people, will face clean water shortages by 2025 at the current rate of consumption.

Richest People in HIp Hop

I found this online. The figures represent total career numbers. Not just for 2006. Jay-Z was on top last year but P Diddy overtook him this year because he sold Bad Boy to Warner at least according to this report.

Courtesy of the Panache Report

1. P. Diddy, $346 Million

2. Jay-Z, $340 Million

3. Russell Simmons, $325 Million

4. Damon Dash, $200 Million

5. Neptunes, $155 Million

6 Dr. Dre, $150 Million

7. Ice Cube, $145 Million

8. Eminem, $110 Million

9. 50 Cent, $100 Million

10. Nelly, $60 Million

10. (Tie) Jermaine Dupri, $60 Million

NOTABLE MENTION (FUTURE MOGULS)

1. Kanye West, with the success of his record label (John Legend) and an upcoming clothing line and films, expect West to grace this list in the near future. He currently signed to go on tour with the Rolling Stones and he made $16.9 million off his “Touch The Sky Tour,” last year.

2. Rapper T. I. has investments in clubs, detail shops and a production company.

Random Thoughts

Does anyone not know how Flava of Love 2 is going to turn out.

Myspace is the devil. I have seen Grandmas on there now. How many relationships have been ruined by Myspace (The Game, Michael Vick and others).

Jay-Z is setting the image for all the hip-hop dudes to follow from Marcy Projects to press conferences with Kofi Annan.

Pink is dead. Please don't wear this color if you are trying to be fashionable.

Hollywood in Houston

Magic Johnson theaters located in "scenic" North Houston was the place that Solange Knowles premiered her new straight to DVD film "Bring it On". It is the third film in the series and the lead has rotated from Kristen Dunst and Gabrielle Union to Solange and some random girl I have never heard of...Hayden Panettiere. The DVD release had a red carpet and everything these are some of the pics of that event. This is the closest I have been to Beyonce.

Fashion Done Right

Here at The Matrix, we like to look good. I like to comment on good and bad fashion. I like this ensemble by P Diddy and best of all it can be copied rather easily. Classic grey suit with vest that can be worn in summer and fall. Other than the shades which actually thru the suit off to me he is well suited and he is emerging as one of the style icons of all time.

Shadowboxer Opening Weekend

I saw this movie at the American Black Film Festival and liked it. The film was original and not cliched at all. The film stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Monique, Stephen Dorff and is directed my Lee Daniels. Cuba Gooding Jr. did an outstanding job as a hitman who is part son and part lover to his stepmom. He was assigned a jog to kill a pregnat woman, who actually begins to give birth during the hit. The story was really well written and all of the actors in the movie did an outstanding job, including Monique who definitely surprised me. She was a crackhead that is in love with a doctor. If you are in Houston, TX check it out at the Angelicka film center downtown. I give it 5 out of 7 jewels.
